Interesting sites and movies

After receiving and finding some interesting links to sites connected with food, science and general amazingness of food, I decided to make a list for my future reference and also share it with you. If you have some good proposals for my list, they are more than welcomed.

  • Cuoredicioccolato  is a youtube channel with interesting (and above all easy) recipes. Some explanations are also mixed in to make the viewing even more interesting.
  • I have mentioned The Inn at the crossroads already a couple of times. But it deserves to be listed here. My personal favorites are definitely recipes from A Song of Ice and Fire series, but do check other sections of the site.
  • The angry chef is a fabulous blog about the science of food and eating. With learnings from the past and a focused look on the future, it never disappoints.
  • Jernejs kitchen is a blog about everyday comfort food. Accompanied with gorgeous pictures, the recipes are fairly easy to prepare, the descriptions to the point without too much unnecessary information. You can skip directly to the recipe – a nice feature that I would like to see also on other sites.
  • Medieval cookery is much more than just what the title promises. Besides super interesting medieval recipes, there are tons of links, book recommendations and general medieval trivia – from paintings, menus and statistics.
  • Olive is a super nice magazine with tons of free recipes. What I especially like is the fact they jump straight to the case: ingredients and how to prepare it. Forget pages of exposes about your grandmother, historical facts and unimportant trivia interrupted by commercials. And do check out the Groundnut chicken stew – heavenly!

My movie selection

Another thing that I enjoy are movies about food. There are quite some out there that never cease to inspire me. The actors are great, but the food is king – the closeups, colors and sounds of food and cooking are the true seasoning of these movies. And they make them fantastic! Some days now I am going to make a dish out of these moves, just for fun. Keep in mind that this is only my selection, with food as a prominent star the way I see it. Check out this list, if you are hungry for more.

  • Chef is a fun movie of a guy going from a restaurant to a food truck, creating amazing food along the journey.
  • Burnt is a story about a chef in a top restaurant and his way back from the low time in his career and life.
  • The Hundred-Foot Journey is a gorgeous movie about the clash of two cultures and cooking styles: a Michelin type French haut cuisine and wild untamed Indian cooking.
  • The chef is a funny french (you know it is about food :-)) movie, which doesn’t take itself too seriously, but the food is the main actor and the atmosphere is soft and warm like a true french sauce. PS Jean Reno
  • Cook up a storm is a chinese movie, with some great food preparation scenes. Definitely something to see, especially considering it involves eastern and western cooking styles.
  • Soul Kitchen is not exactly a food enthusiast movie, but its general vibe and take on high-end food is fabulous!

There are also some more movies on my to-see list. If they are inspiring and awesome, I will definitely add them. If you have a suggestion, I would be more than thankful if you leave it in the comments below.
